Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated EHS Leader to support both factory and field operations in the wind industry. This individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of all EHS-related activities, working closely with cross-functional teams to maintain a safe, productive, and efficient working environment. The EHS Leader will also assist in technology development, driving innovation to enhance safety practices, and ensuring that all operations align with regulatory standards and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, experience in EHS management, and a passion for advancing sustainability and safety in the renewable energy sector. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site leadership and expertise in safety, health, and environmental standards at both factory and field locations.

  • Implement best practices for EHS protocol at all GWT office locations.

  • Maintain and update all GWT EHS policies to ensure GWT is compliant across industry standards.

  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure safe work environments.

  • Lead investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with field teams and factory operations to ensure effective implementation of EHS protocols.

  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure that EHS procedures are consistently followed.

  • Develop, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, environmental impact, and compliance.

  • Maintain accurate safety and compliance data, providing timely reports on safety performance.

  • Present regular safety reports and metrics to senior stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.

  • Use data to drive continuous improvement initiatives and highlight areas of concern.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, customer requirements, and relevant local and international safety standards.

  • Work closely with regulatory agencies, ensuring timely reporting and adherence to legal requirements.

  • Prepare and maintain safety documentation, risk assessments, and compliance records.

  • Serve as the point of contact for external audits, inspections, and safety assessments.

  • Ensure all Hazardous waste is labeled, stored, and disposed of according to regulations.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new technologies aimed at improving safety and efficiency in wind industry operations.

  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to integrate safety innovations and best practices into new products, processes, and technologies.

  • Identify and evaluate emerging safety technologies and processes that can enhance EHS performance in the wind industry.

  • Lead safety training sessions for both factory and field teams, ensuring workers are well-informed of best safety practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and implement safety programs aimed at increasing employee engagement in safety and environmental sustainability.

  • Support the development of safety procedures and materials tailored to specific operational environments (e.g., onshore, offshore, and factory settings).

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in EHS roles, with significant experience in the wind industry, manufacturing, or energy sectors.

  • Experience in managing field and factory-based EHS operations and leading cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive safety culture initiatives and improve EHS performance through data-driven solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, industry safety standards, and environmental compliance (e.g., ISO 14001).

  • Proven experience in presenting safety performance metrics and KPIs to senior stakeholders.

  • Ability to apply analytical skills to identify trends and areas of improvement in safety and environmental metrics.

  • Familiarity with technologies and innovations aimed at improving safety and environmental performance in the wind industry.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Proactive and detail-oriented approach to managing safety and compliance initiatives.

  • Passion for sustainability and a commitment to advancing the wind industry’s safety standards.

  • Ability to travel domestic and international as needed

Desired qualifications 

  • Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), GWO (Global Wind Organization), GWO ART (Advanced Rescue Training) are highly desirable.

  • Previous relevant experience, preferably in the wind industry, but candidates with translatable experience are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience with Wind Turbine designs and Wind Turbine Blade manufacturing processes.
