Summary
Gulf Wind Technology is seeking a Wind Turbine Loads and Controls Engineer to join our engineering team in Hickory, North Carolina. To help our team grow and tackle new projects, we’re looking for a Wind Turbine Engineer who is excited to tackle new and innovative wind energy technology projects. Specifically, the Loads and Controls Engineer will lead the development of wind turbine aero-elastic analysis methods and tools to optimize turbine and farm performance and reduce system loads.
Job description
As a member of Gulf Wind Technology’s Research and Development Team, the Loads and Controls Engineer will play a key role in the aero-elastic design and analysis of new and existing blades. You will have a variety of opportunities to learn new skills while leading projects for customers, leaning into your own expertise to help the team succeed. At Gulf Wind Technology you will be responsible for:
Collaborating with an interdisciplinary design team to develop multi-body dynamic load models and tools for wind turbine blades and systems, using internal and commercial software packages.
Integrate control systems into wind turbine simulation environment, and conduct simulations to validate control system functionality.
Build new engineering tools, methods, codes, and scripts that improve the accuracy, capability, and speed of deliverables.
Manage cross functional projects, including developing a business case, coordinating team member activities, managing project budgets and customer reporting.
Participate in field performance, loads, and vibration measurements to gather firsthand understanding of blade and turbine operation.
Required qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical or a related field.
Knowledge or experience of loads modeling processes and tools, such as OpenFAST, Bladed, Flex, Adams, or similar tools.

Desired characteristics
Previous relevant experience, preferably in the wind industry, but candidates with translatable experience are encouraged to apply.
Experience with modal analysis, loads measurements, or machine learning methods is beneficial.
